KBB writes these fierce protagonists and I love her for it. Miri had some of the same qualities readers loved in Ada (The War That Saved My Life) and Della and Suki (Fighting Words:). She's a survivor.

This book made me wonder how many people alive today have Jewish heritage but don't know it because an ancestor had to hide their identity to survive and then never got it back. (view spoiler) ...more

Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, I will read anything you write! This was a fantastic, off-the-beaten path story of a Jewish girl in WWII Paris. Miri escapes the roundup of the Jewish population only to be sent to a convent school in rural France where she encounters other unusual circumstances as she learns about the history of the local castle. As always, her writing style draws you in immediately, and her sympathetic and interesting characters mixed with some intrigue keep you reading. Definitely a ...more
