Lulu, a spoiled child in the grain of Dahl's Veruca Salt, wants a pet brontosaurus (yes, the nonexistence of brontosauri are addressed in a forward but none of that matters and this is fiction so she could want a two-headed dragon if she wanted.) When her raging tantrum failed to exact the usual response from her parents, she packs her suitcase and hits the forest to bag her own brontosaurus.

Bratty girl wants a brontosaurus and goes into the forest to find one. The narration has wonderful personality (I love Judith Viorst)-- the asides were my favorite thing about the book. Not super impressed with Lane Smith's illustrations, didn't care for the medium - maybe just high expectations because I love his other stuff. Would recommend this book to reluctant readers, fans of Junie B. and teachers who are presenting the concept of "voice" to young writers.

Wow. I was excited for a Judith Viorst chapter book since I enjoy her picture books. While many parts of the story were cute, I kind of felt like if this were edited down it would make a good picture book. Instead, I don't know what to think. I guess I'll see what the kids think. Reluctant readers might like it because it is short. And snarky like Junie B. It reminded me of the Wild Things a little bit. Grades Pre-K-2??

This was cute. One of my patrons recommended it to me. She LOVED it. It took me about 20 minutes to read. Would be a fun reader's theater! Lulu wants a brontosaurus for a pet, and she isn't going to take no for an answer. But when she finally finds one, he informs her that she is going to be his new pet! It's a battle of wills with a cute ending and lots of fun Lane Smith illustrations.

Lovely! One of our new favorites. Love the shape of the book, how it's billed as an early chapter book but written as one of the best picture books around - colorful vocabulary, lots to think about, emotions, funny.

Cute early middle grade novel about a girl who learns to be less self-centered.
