A wonderful story (even though dystopian future-is-now) with themes of the value of diversity and the importance of story and art. A must-read.

In a futuristic world that is soon to become uninhabitable, 3 ships of scientists and their children are sent to a far off planet. They will be asleep for hundreds of years, but when they arrive it is hoped that they will be able to start a new and better life. Petra Pena is among the passengers - reluctantly leaving her beloved storyteller grandmother behind. But when Petra wakes up, it is to find that nothing has gone as promised. Can she find the strength within herself to begin yet again?

I liked the creative combination of science fiction, mythology and space storytelling.
I liked the Spanish inserts and the gorgeous cover art. A bit dark and intense for a children's book, but great for older kids.

A book that will make you want to keep reading. I can see why it won the Newbery medal! Great for any middle school classroom.
