I read this back to back with Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie. When I read that one I at least knew Jeffrey was going to live. This one left me wondering - would the cancer come back, what about his friend Tad. But this book dealt with a different issue - state mandated testing gone awry, and I loved the way Sonnenblick handled this issue. This is the sequel to "Drums Girls and Dangerous Pie" and boy does is pack a punch. This time Jeffrey is our narrator. He's in 8th grade and dealing with the aftermath of the drugs that killed his cancer. Just like Drums, the book is filled with memorable characters, humor and heartbreak. Unforgettable.

This book is a satisfying companion to Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie, picking up Jeffrey's story at 13-years-old. It will break your heart and make you cry, but it's also as sweet and charming as the first book, with lots of moments to make you smile and laugh. My only regret was finishing it too soon!
