I finally read this book today. Done in reverso verse (using the same lines of poetry in opposite order) 2 poems are created with distinct meaning. Singer ran the theme of fairy tales throughout the book. Incredibly clever and captivating! Really nothing more to say than if you are looking for a fun book for upper elementary as a gift this book is perfect!

A book my daughter and I read together. A fun and completely new way of reading verse, putting a new twist on fairy tales.

Cute idea. Familiar stories turned into poems. Might be good for poetry month.

This delightful collection of verses that can be read forward and backward (completely changing the perspective) will challenge children to create their own "reversos." The illustrations expand on the theme of mirror images. They are lively and colorful, successfully capturing these irreverent fairy tale characters who are not, perhaps, entirely happy with their lot in life. A clever and thoroughly enjoyable new take on tales we thought we knew. ...more

I think this book might be a tough sell for the younger set to read alone, but what a great teaching tool! You could easily use it to teach not only poetic forms, but also point of view, plot, and punctuation.

It is amazing how the author was able to make these poems work backwards and forwards, making complete sense in both directions! Unique and creative.
The Reading Countess
This is a fun book of poems that might require a second or even a third reading to fully enjoy.
