What Members Thought
There is no doubt this book is brilliant. Perhaps a little draggy at time. But damn, it gave me PTSD. Loving people with mental illness is brutal.
I liked the perspective of this book. It was interesting how the author explored Vincent's story through his relationship with his brother, Theo. We are going to Amsterdam this fall and I think knowing this history will make the Van Gogh museum more interesting.

The story of Vincent and Theo Van Gogh, told through “galleries.” I loved it and learned so much that I didn’t know. Great read. A bit above the Newbery age (I would say 12 and up), as you can’t tell the story of the Van Gogh brothers without prostitutes and syphilis. I expect it to win some awards, just maybe not the Newbery.
This was an incredible portrait of two brothers' devotion to each other and to art. Love, passion, and mental illness drive this story of a genius and the brother who brought it out.
