I wanted to read this the moment I heard of this debut sometime early last summer. The road trip angle appealed to me but it was the birding part that made me WANT this big time. I pre-ordered a copy but have been really busy with other reading commitments. Plus I wanted to read it at a quiet and uninterrupted time. Such a lovely, interesting book... This middle grade fiction book is about Charlie. He has a big sister named Davis and younger twin brothers, Joel and Jake. His mother was killed by a drunk driver when he was younger and so his Gram takes care of him along with his dad. But his dad was working on a project in Afghanistan and suffered a traumatic brain injury. They aren't sure what's going to happen, but it turns out that the best treatment is in Virginia. Excellent book, so well written. Just the right mix of genuine and real with funny and offbeat. If you read the summary and think you may be interested in it, you will not regret reading it!
