A gentle middle reader of family, grief and friendship wrapped in mystery. Set in a certain small town in Utah that has hosted a successful Shakespearean Festival for the past 53 years--fictional Thorn Creek. Tender and delightful.
Equally beautiful on the second reading, for our Flashlight Reader’s Book Club. Lots of interesting extended metaphors and descriptions of grief and pain that I didn’t notice so much on the first reading. Loved it again.

This is the story of how Cedar finally comes to terms with her grief over the death of her father and older brother who died a year before in a car accident. Spending the summer in her mother's hometown, she forms a friendship with a local boy working at the local theatre festival. It is a gentle story about grief.

This is set in Cedar City and the Shakespeare Festival, though renamed for the book, which was fun for me, being someplace I'm familiar with. It is a slower read, one to be savored and ruminated over, w characters you would want to be friends with.
