Picking right up where its predecessor, Chickadee, left off, Makoons follows twin Ojibwe brothers, Chickadee and Makoon, after Makoon has returned from many trials. Although this is the fifth book in the Birchbark House series, it's the first one I've read. It stands well alone, its characters and setting richly drawn. That said, I now want to read the other books in the series to meet the younger versions of characters that I grew to love, particularly Okamyas, Two Strike and Nokomis.
