Samantha
A teen realistic fiction novel that follows the lives of three teen girls over the course of one day at a large urban high school.

Latisha- is the bystander and is largely into her fake nails and her cell phone. She feels pressured to warn Trina, though she doesn;t follow through.

Trina- is the victim and a pretty girl art student with a big ego.

Dominique- is the bully who jumps Trina after a slight diss in the hallway. She's into basketball, but has been benched due to her grades. She's got a tem

Rita Williams-Garcia Jumped

Wow. Jumped is an intense story following three very different girls in high school, mostly during the course of one day.

Trina: a flirty, good looking, thinks-she’s-a-star-born-to-shine girl.
Dominique: an athletic, angry, Don't-mess-with-me girl.
Leticia: an average, gossip, wants-the-best-seat for the "show" girl that gets by doing the minimum (in everything) every day.

Dominique has marked Trina, to beat up at the end of the school day, and Leticia knows. What we are

A day in the life, realistic story narrated by three high school girls. Each was completely distinct and believable in her own way, and it's the type of story where you - like the characters - don't know quite how things will resolve by the end. It's intense, funny, and a little heart-breaking all at once. While I can't fault it for anything in terms of characterization, pacing, or tone, I personally didn't connect to the story.

I'd recommend it to teens looking for contemporary, realistic stori

I started this one because it's a National Book Award finalist, and I finished it because it's a National Book Award finalist. Not my cup of tea. I read for characters and there weren't any. I found them all to be one-dimensional and I like my characters to have things like motivation and depth. In all fairness, maybe that's just what the author intended--but it left me not caring about any of them. Frankly, I wanted to beat Trina up. I do think the story has a lot of teen appeal, because I know ...more

it's a rough book to stomach. there are no likeable characters. each is so flawed and self-consumed that you're ultimately hoping for the worst of all possible demises for each of the girls in the book. it's certainly not written for me, and it's hard to think of anyone who would glean enjoyment from this.

is this a realistic scenario in high school? absolutely. without the established restraints, this would happen every day in both urban and suburban high schools across the country. go walk dow

Told from three girls' viewpoints, a depressing picture of female violence in overcrowded city schools is vivid. The dialog is strong and the central incident shocking and useless. ...more

Told from the perspective of 3 teenage girls, this book presents the reader with a moral dilemma and 3 unlikable protagonists. This would be a good discussion starter with teens.

Ethics in an inner-city high school. If you knew someone was going to be violently attacked, what would you do? Learn the story from all 3 girls involved.

Realistic fiction, YA, about 3 high school girls--each chapter is about a different girl. One plays basketball, another is an artist and the last is retaking a class she failed.

It took me over a month to complete this book--I just couldn't get into this book maybe because the characters (chapters) kept changing. I needed a photograph at the beginning of each chapter to let me know which girl this was.
