This was an interesting memoir about an impulsive 20-year-old named Edna Bruner who without much thought decided to up and move to Thailand (then known as 'Siam') to teach in a missionary girl's school in 1903. Being quite naive, she soon had her eyes opened when she was forced to deal with monsoons, horrible insects, bandits and robbers as well as experiencing the beauty of seeing royal celebrations that very, very few people saw in those days.
