There were times when I found the pacing here to be quite slack, and some of what I’d always experienced from Robin Hobb’s best work — a tension that balanced out how much she likes to take her time — was less present than I’d want.

I had a few expectations as to an ending, and was greatly satisfied to not see the ending as I had imagined.
I love happy endings. I really do. And I love them even more when they are preceded by so much heartache, misery, and sacrifice. Such a happy reversal was not forced in this novel. Julia don't read this!!!!
I LOVED this second (or third!) time round. Whilst the first two books in this series seem slightly parochial, this third book is an epic masterpiece. Having said that, the best moments are the character moments, as so always with Robin Hobb. The chapter towards the end when Fitz brings the Fool back to life and then the Fool takes Fitz back to Girl on a Dragon and gives Fitz back all the memories he put into Girl on a Dragon is just beautiful. I was crying my eyes out! ...more
