The novel follows seven strangers as they debark on a pilgrimage to the Time Tombs and the dreaded Shrike on the world of Hyperion. Hyperion is a fringe planet in post-Earth universe, which is divided into three factions: the ruling Hegemony (humans), the Ousters (humans) the TechnoCore (AI).

This was beautifully written from the perspective of multiple characters, with different stories to tell interwoven with the present.
I have to say, I love sci-fi books which use the science fiction as an interesting backdrop for some really intense character interaction and scenarios you just couldn't create in the present world. This book does it brilliantly.

A science-fiction classic and a modern Canterbury Tales.
I liked the structure of the book, and it worked very well together. Dan Simmons is obviously a gifted writer, combining interesting ideas with memorable characters. Some of these stories, if not all, could have easily been made into standalone novels, and I would love to explore more of this universe.
