6.0 stars. One of my ALL Time Favorite novels. This is easily on my list of top 5 GREATEST Science Fiction novels ever written. Superb combination of grand, "big idea" space opera with incredible characters and deeply emotional writing. A PERFECT NOVEL!!! HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION!!

Hyperion is one of those must read novels for science fiction aficionados. It is a brilliantly conceived novel that brings sci-fi into the realm of literary fiction. It assumes the reader is widely familiar with science as well as general fiction. Its structure harkens to Canterbury Tales, it interpretation to Keats and The Bible as well as the body of science fiction literature. There are so many allusions to understand from experience or to lookup. It is simply one of the best science fiction

This was a hard one to rate. Parts of this book get a five, without question, but over all I found it hard to follow. Maybe when I read the next book in the series it will get easier.
The scholar's story is well worth the effort to read the entire book. I enjoyed a couple of the other stories (mainly the priest and the poet). But the scholar's story was the best by far.
I enjoyed the varied themes of the book. Several note worthy moments.

This still has to be one of my all time favorite science fiction books of all times. It gets re-read every couple of years.
I really enjoyed this audio version of the book a lot. The narrators did a superb job of creating the voices of the characters that I have come to love since the first time I read the book over a decade ago.

A science-fiction classic and a modern Canterbury Tales.
I liked the structure of the book, and it worked very well together. Dan Simmons is obviously a gifted writer, combining interesting ideas with memorable characters. Some of these stories, if not all, could have easily been made into standalone novels, and I would love to explore more of this universe.
