I began to groan aloud around page 100 but soldiered on because this is the book my book club has chosen. By page 150, I could no longer bear the pain of devoting precious leisure time to this story. I can't care about Jude because I can't believe he is a real person. One glance at the reviews for this book shows me that most readers do not have this problem.
