Dollbaby is a novel set in the southern states in the mid 60's. I especially love reading this genre. In some ways this novel reminded me of The Help.
I became immediately involved with the characters.......wisdom, laughter, sadness, empathy, secrets visit every page of this page turning novel. It is difficult to pick out a favourite character but Dollbaby's story is one that will linger in your heart. ...more

I wonder if the author intended this for a young adolescent reader; it would account for the over explanation of southern customs and historical elements. If so, I may be judging this book by an inappropriate standard. The book opens with 11 year old Ibby being unceremoniously deposited on the doorstep of her paternal grandmother, a woman she has never met in a city half a continent away from her home.
