The Woman Warrior is a truly inspiring book with many feminist themes throughout. Maxine Hong Kingston writes in an abstract way, mixing fiction and non-fiction in specific chapters in order to paint a picture for the audience the strength of the women she knew, and women in general. There are eye opening portrayals on how her family treated her poorly because she was a girl and how many are treated for their gender alone. I absolutely loved this book. It's written so beautifully and contains so many amazing stories, some of which are very outlandish, which keeps it interesting. I really, really enjoy reading about women and their struggles to find themselves/combat male-dominated societies, and this book was a wonderful illustration of those struggles. I hated this book. I love books about different cultures, and I had read reviews that Maxine Hong Kingston wrote this book about her Chinese heritage. However, I found that the way she incorporated the five different stories of the Chinese woman warriors in her life didn't flow. The book was hard to read and hard to understand. It didn't keep my attention for a long period of time. The way she presents her stories seems awkward at points. I would not recommend this book. ...more

Woman Warrior was an intriguing, empowering, and interesting book. It is excellent for feminists and any woman in need of empowerment. Kingston shares a variety of talk stories about overcoming the judgements of the world. She has shown through her experiences that women can rise to the top.
