What can I say? I read this a while ago when pressured by a friend, who I now categorize as having dubious literary choices, but anyway, he recommended it and I read it. It's an easy read and it epitomizes sappy teen-ness. I also admire the cult worshiping it has inspired; that's some power. And the movie is pure comedy gold.
