The acts of cruelty a bit too uncomfortable for me as the reader.I found it quite a hard slog to finish the book.I did feel glad for Charlie at the end.However I wouldn't recommennd this book it wasn't my cup of tea! I gave it a one star only as I think some people will enjoy it as a challenge to read-not their normal book genre
