If Holden Caulfield had been sweeter, more well-adjusted, and a Greek hermaphrodite and "The Catcher in the Rye" contained an additional 250 pages about his parents and grandparents, that might be sortof like this book. Why compare it? Because at it's heart it is a well-written coming of age story that rings so true it will likely pass the test of time. All that awkwardness of adolescence and puberty is so relatable despite the main character's unique body. And it's funny.

Wasn't too excited about reading this book but I really enjoyed it--once I got past the Greek & Turkish history and geography--I learned so much & thought the book was great. Great writing--especially the end of the book!
