OK. 4 1/2 stars. But better than many 4 star books, so what am I to do?
Middlesex is a fascinating tale of multiple generations, multiple lives, gender identity and much more. It is written with humor and sensitivity, alternating between the past and the present. It is engaging and enjoyable.
It IS long. Too long. There are characters and plots and stoies that add little, and, thus, subtract. The ambiguity of the name and purpose of "Chapter 11" adds little. The frightful story of his college expe ...more

Wasn't too excited about reading this book but I really enjoyed it--once I got past the Greek & Turkish history and geography--I learned so much & thought the book was great. Great writing--especially the end of the book!
