I hardly ever give a book 5 stars but this was an exceptionally good book. It’s a very important story in this day and age.
It’s a very sad and emotional story about a girl dealing with grief and tragedy in losing a friend, in fact, two friends in similar circumstances.

Angie Thomas's novel is written so that it feels extremely authentic. It is easy to go into the teen Starr's world, her friendships, her fears, her family, and the loss of her friends. I felt a member of Starr's family because the writing put me in Starr's shoes. It is not a traditional, all perfect family.
