I’ve seen it happen over and over again: a black person gets killed just for being black, and all hell breaks loose. I’ve Tweeted RIP hashtags, reblogged pictures on Tumblr, and signed every petition out there. I always said that if I saw it happen to somebody, I would have the loudest voice, making sure the world knew what went down.
Now I am that person, and I’m too afraid to speak.

I don't have anything else to add that others haven't already said. This is an important book. A book that can be difficult to read, but that should be read nonetheless. Highly recommend.

Loved this book. It shows the terrible reality of how far we think we've come as a society, and we've made undeniable strides forward but yet have SO much farther to go. My favorite quote/paragraph has so much truth packed in in this short passage ..."That's the problem. We let people say stuff, and they say it so much that it becomes okay to them and normal for us. What's the point of having a voice if you're gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn't be?”

I hardly ever give a book 5 stars but this was an exceptionally good book. It’s a very important story in this day and age.
It’s a very sad and emotional story about a girl dealing with grief and tragedy in losing a friend, in fact, two friends in similar circumstances.
