The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins was a suspenseful mystery set near London, England. Rachel is an alcoholic who lives in suburb of London with a old college friend. She rides the train every day because she doesn't want her room mate to know that she lost her job a few months earlier. During her rides on the train she observes a couple that lives near where she used to live with her ex-husband Tom, whom left her for his mistress Anna and had a daughter with her. I started reading this because it’s recommended for Gone Girl fans. I’m not really a fan of Gone Girl, but I found that story fresh and riveting. It’s the kind of book that lingers on your mind; something that you will really remember. Plus, I’m totally in love with Gillian Flynn’s other book, Dark Places. For me, that’s her best book.

This was a claustrophobic novel and a slightly uncomfortable read, but I did enjoy it. Rachel's life is such a car crash and you cringe your way through her days with her. I didn't like any of the characters much but I think that was the point, to show everyone's imperfections. Wouldn't have picked it up if not for book club, it was worth the 3 days though.

If you can get the characters straight it's a good suspense novel
