Just like a train - it starts off slow, but it picks up the pace as you journey further through the story. Definitely kept me guessing.

Full disclosure: My high school Spanish teacher was named Paula Hawkins, so I was pretty much a hater of this book from the get-go based on that first observation.

But honestly? I truly don't get the hype on this one. I know a movie is already in the works and this story got some great publicity early on, but I didn't gather anything original from the novel after reading.

I am no sleuth when reading books or watching movies. I swear, I was truly shocked when I saw the Sixth Sense in the theater y

I don't know a single person who doesn't look out the train window and idealize the world that they see before them--snapshots of panoramic scenery perfect in the second you get to see it and of people captured a moment of perfect living. That postcard, forever ingrained in your memory, stays as the epitome of a beautiful moment or place or person. It's impossible to know the trials and tribulations of others lives without the time and the microscope to examine them. But, come to think of it, ho ...more

Everyone called this the "next Gone Girl" but I think that's too much. The book is a page turner, yes, but I say it's still a far cry from Gone Girl. For one, I already guessed 'whodunit' halfway through the book. And after all has been said and done, it doesn't leave that "WTF" feeling Gone Girl is so known for.

That being said, I would still recommend this book if you're looking for a psychological thriller to read. It's gripping and gives it share of a mind f*ck.

4 stars.

Wow. It's going to take me a little while to recover from this one. SO good. Written in a way that immediately gets you into the heads of the characters. I felt just as crazy and unsure as the characters did all the way through.

This is the next Gone Girl. But it's so much better.

I had high expectations for this book from the beginning. However, once I read the first 30 pages or so and found at least 5 major typing and/or grammar errors in the text, I was disappointed. I thought the book was going to be another one of those read it, wonder why it was so bad, and then donate it somewhere... but I was wrong. This book is a true page-turner and I finished it in about a day and a half. The suspense and confusion was so entertaining. I wonder how the author kept herself strai ...more

I really enjoyed this read. The small reveals and seemly unnecessary character twists made for a wonderful grand reveal. Honestly, about 80% in I kind of guessed the truth, but I still wanted to see it all get put together by the characters. It was better then I expected. I can definitely see why Hollywood jumped at this book. I only wish I could know a little more about how Rachel moves on or IF she can.

I figured out the "twist" very early on, so much of the surprise in the book was lost on me. The writing was serviceable--not spectacular. The characters and character development are where this book really shines. I found the women despicable, pathetic, horrible, and fascinating. Compared to Gone Girl, however, this book just isn't as good. ...more

It took me a min to get into this book, it really started out slow, but eventually, picked up. I liked it, I didn't love it. The women were, I don't know, oblivious to what was really going on, they never questioned their husband about anything. Towards the end, I did get a lil excited, just a little, but was quite annoyed with the ending. ...more
