Torn brown 4 or 5. Very suspenseful, I wasn't quite sure who the main villains was until last quarter although I suspected after half the book. Every one of these characters were a mess and they deserved a lot of the trouble they got themselves into. I have to compare to Gone Girl which I liked. Both are about on the same level. It could've been a little shorter but it was worth the read. The ending was a little flat. ...more

"The alcoholic narrator Rachael was dead perfect" said Stephen King.

The lullaby of the train created a feeling in her that all needs are met perfectly: the freedom of comfort but the torments of dependency on her fantasy life lived elsewhere. (fueled by alcohol)

Shelves: adult-fiction, mystery-thriller

(Audiobook) Starting with the obvious: yes this is similar to GONE GIRL with the crazy female and the good ol' boy, but no it is not as good nor as crazy. BUT Hawkins still included all my favorite things: multiple character pov, unreliable narrators, constant plot twists and *SPOILER ALERT* girl power. I also am starting a phase of loving all these English/British narrator accents. ...more
