Perfect for fans of Gone Girl...very different story, but full of that same creeping dread, that same rising, crushing tension on your chest when you put everything together and the full story is revealed to you. Sort of Rear Window-esque, as well. Great writing, too--restrained, well-crafted sentences. I liked this very much and couldn't put it down.

I was disappointed by this book. After all the hype surrounding it and being hailed as the next Gone Girl AND being optioned to be adapted into a film, I was expecting something great but this book REALLY drags. It's not a thriller or mystery in the traditional sense, and while the characters have some nice twists and back stories all three of the main characters sound identical to each other, often using the same phrases. The thing that really bothered me about this though is that the narrators

I can never judge how good a mystery or thriller is until I've reached the end. If I figure out what is going on too early, it's just no good. Or if the ending is just boring and anti-climactic (cough, cough, Gone Girl) I get really annoyed. You don't have to worry about either of those with this book. It's a fast, enjoyable read and the pacing is perfect. I really loved how broken and flawed the narrator was, it was nice that she wasn't perfect.

I had high hopes for this book since Indigo has designated it as a "Spotlight" read but it wasn't nearly as good as "Gone Girl". Good premise but too many unreliable narrators and I didn't find any of the characters particularly sympathetic.

I loved the voices of Rachel, Megan and Anna in this thriller whodunit. Not only did this train mean something to every narrator; I felt like I was hurtling along trying to figure out what really happened in this mystery. A great beach read, this book does not disappoint!

I enjoyed this book pretty well. Felt slow at the beginning, but after the first few chapters it was hard to put down.
Quotes I liked:
Hollowness: that I understand. I'm starting to believe that there isn't anything you can do to fix it. That's what I've taken from the therapy sessions: the holes in your life are permanent. You have to grow around them, like tree roots around concrete; you mould yourself through the gaps. All these things I know, but I don't say them out loud, not now. ...more

Really 3.5. Was intriguing enough, but not as much Hitchcock as I feel reviews have promised. The audiobook is good: the three women are distinct though I often missed the dates and the jumping around makes following the plot a little more difficult if you miss it. Would definitely recommend to fans of thrillers, unreliable narrators, or Gone Girl.
