The Night Circus, written by Erin Morgenstern, is a fantastical account of an extraordinary group of people. Illusionists, contortionists, fortune tellers, magic. All that and more reside within the black and white tents of Le Cirque des Rêves, the traveling circus which sleeps by day and comes alive in wonder by night, from dusk till dawn. One young man and one young woman, both employed by the circus in two very different ways, are pitted against one another in a mysterious contest which neither knows much about.

This was a beautifully written novel, full of entrancing prose and even more entrancing characters. Everything about the story was positively magical, both in the literal sense and simply because I was awed by the quality of the tale. It was not an addicting read, as many books are, in the sense that I never felt as if I had to keep reading to find out what would happen. But it was still an incredibly immersive and fulfilling experience, which I looked forward to delving into every day. I adored the concept of the circus, and found myself wishing fervently, on more than one occasion, that it was real and would come rolling through my town one day, appearing as if out of thin air overnight. The rich description of the various tents and acts of the circus paint a picture of grandeur one can only hope to experience in their life.

I give this story, after much deliberation, four out of five stars. Despite all the praise I have showered on it, I tend to save five stars for novels that have both excellent writing and addicting story lines. The Night Circus is lacking in the latter department, as I found it easy to put down, but it is still by far an amazing read. Upon finishing The Night Circus, I experienced immense satisfaction, akin to what one feels after consuming a delicious and filling meal. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a lover of magic and fantasy, anyone who enjoys being whisked off to whimsical and fascinating worlds. This book had been recommended to me by a friend, and after reading the back cover, I was intrigued, but I still didn't read it. I bought it later and downloaded it to my kindle, where it then stayed for several months. After traveling across an ocean and a continent, I grew bored of looking out the window.
