If the movie "The Prestige" and "Alice in Wonderland" had a baby, it would be "The Night Circus".
Now that I've reached the end, I understand. Alexander and Widget's conversation at the end of the book enlightens everything about the pace, detail, time jumping and perspective of "The Night Circus".
Until about 250 pages in, I was disappointed. The stage had been set, but it was all dress rehearsal until Marco and Celia spoke their feelings aloud. And then the story raced forward on the circus trai ...more

I did not finish this book. I read about 100 pages and I just couldn't get into the story. I looked forward to reading it but then once I started, I didn't want to read anymore. The language is wordy and overdone. There is no reason for the author to distance themselves from the reader by using over-exaggerated phrases and words that are difficult to understand. Enchantment and Magic
As I read this story and followed the magic and mystery it made me think of one of my favorite shows,HBO's Carnivale. The mystery of people in the circus, what powers they may or may not have. The book was a slow paced read, but enjoyable. This is a book that doesn't give you answers, but allows you to ponder the mysteries of the characters and what truly becomes of them. ...more
