If the movie "The Prestige" and "Alice in Wonderland" had a baby, it would be "The Night Circus".
Now that I've reached the end, I understand. Alexander and Widget's conversation at the end of the book enlightens everything about the pace, detail, time jumping and perspective of "The Night Circus".
Until about 250 pages in, I was disappointed. The stage had been set, but it was all dress rehearsal until Marco and Celia spoke their feelings aloud. And then the story raced forward on the circus trai ...more

I liked the magic aspect of the book. I liked the idea and setting especially having always loved the fantasy genre, but something didn't work. I don't know how to explain it. As I was reading The Night Circus, I kept waiting on something to get better or be better explained......

Can I give this book 6 stars? Seriously. This is by far the best book I've read this year. The descriptions of the circus alone were amazing, I could picture the tents and the clock and smell the caramels. I listened to the audiobook version by Jim Dale, so I'm sure that made the book even better. The only part I didn't like was the very very end, it seemed like it could have ended just a little bit earlier and that the last chapter or two was just tacked on to tie up loose ends.
