Karou is a 17-year-old art student living in Prague but she is not ordinary by any stretch. She runs errands to find teeth for a chimaera by the name of Brimstone. For the longest time, she doesn't really know what they are used for but she is given wishes to use on each of her birthdays which is how she speaks so many languages and has bright blue hair that she needs not dye to keep that way. Karou is making a deal for teeth in the marketplace in Marakesh when she is attacked by an angel, the s

Edit-6/9/15--So even though I had alot of issues with the first book, I read the next two and really enjoyed them. I thought the world building and character development was excellent and I highly recommend the trilogy as s whole.
I think I might be becoming a bit of a book snob. I used to like whatever I read, but now that I'm reading a lot more, I'm becoming a bit more critical. As others have noted, the first half of the book was great, but the second half just sort of fell apart for me. Her ...more

Well written but a bit romancy for my tastes. I liked the interesting world painted for readers of angels and chimaera, and I liked the suspense surrounding Karou and her errands for Brimstone. It's neat to speculate on who and what he is. The character of Akiva is intriguing as well. The story comes to an interesting ending that will lead into another book for certain.
