It’s always an unthankful task to review the second book of a trilogy (which is what this series was until 2018).
Of course you want to say something about the story. But with too much detail your review becomes useless for potential future readers (not that I haven’t done some useless reviews in the past -> exhibit A).

I think I liked this one even better than the first.
Brown elevates the conflict established in Red Rising to the next level and, in the process, sheds any YA tropes that were present in the first novel. In fact, I'm not even classifying this as YA.
The struggle of the Reds was an underlying sub-current through the first novel, but in the latter part, it played second fiddle in a lot of ways to the immediate conflict Darrow faced inside the Institute.
