The unconscious idea that we exist separate from the environments that have given birth to us is a cause and an effect of dualism. Deconstructing this false divide between 'self' and the natural world reveals the interrelated and interactive nature of our existence. We are a process made up of a network of internal processes that are inseparably embedded in and at the effect of external processes.
“Modern society is in an extreme, pathological state of rupture from the reality of the natural world, as is indicated on a daily basis by the ecological crisis. There is, moreover, little public recognition that this crisis is indeed a psychological one.”
