Well, I've finished it. In short—I’m devastated. I sobbed through the last 40 pages. My husband threatened to take the book away. I have a headache this morning. I’m gutted.
Collins has a knack for writing brilliant bookswith terrible, horrific resolutions—ones that, by all logic, should make the story unbearable. Instead, they are unforgettable.
Propoganda is the main focus of this book, or rather, this entire saga. It is the Capitol's punishment of a nation, their weapon, and it is everywhere. I ...more

I am still wondering how to describe this book... first of all.
' it's not a bad read and since I read the other parts, it clarified a few things. A prequel is not always necessary and sometimes spoils the rest, but in this case, it doesn't spoil the rest. Hamish is a tragic figure. This novel gives a better understanding of the depth of his tragedy. The bottom line: if you give up everything and stay alive at the cost of other people's lives, will that life be worth it? Can an individual win fro ...more

The long-awaited fifth (or second, depending on how you look at it) book in The Hunger Games series! I've been looking forward to this, because even though I didn't enjoy The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as much as the original trilogy, it was still an enjoyable read - or maybe enjoyable isn't the right word - and I actually like Haymitch, and liked him from the beginning!

Spoiler alert: I was absolutely not ready for the emotional damage that I was going to take with this book.
Wow. This book was really good. It definitely gave me a new perspective on Haymitch as a character and cleared up some of his actions in regards to how he acted with Katniss. I do have a very clear memory of not being a fan of Haymitch/being annoyed with Haymitch's attitude while reading the first book and this book really redeemed him for me. Not to say that I hated Haymitch, I found his ...more

4.5 stars. This is the best book in the entire series. It’s fucking amazing. Haymitch’s story was long overdue and it definitely delivered. The angst in this? My goodness! Haymitch is strong because the shit he went through, all of those tragic deaths (view spoiler) I just wanted to hug him. This book had me in tears quite a few times I was that invested

Loved this!!! 4.5/5!!

Another fantastic installment of the Hunger Games. This one featuring Haymitch when he was in the games. I really enjoyed this because many of the connections are being made in this book to the original Hunger Games. I wanted to love this as much as Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, but it didn't get there for me. I think I may have just really been invested in the human element of Snow being revealed.
That being said, this was still a fantastic book and a great addition to the series. ...more
