Maybe more like 4.5ish?
Ok, so I love this series, I really do. And when I finished this one, I was all "OMG THIS WAS THE BEST!" because like most, I was on that book high and the ending was insane. But now that I've settled down and had some time to think it over, I actually realized I did have a few issues with this one that I just can't seem to shake.
But first, let's talk about what I loved:

All I can say is OMGosh, this book was so incredibly awesome. The cliffhanger has me dying that the next book won't be out any time soon. How is Rebecca Yarros going to do this to us.
Not only is Xaden and Violet my favorite fantasy couple but every one of the rest of the characters are just amazing. There is nothing quite like the snarkiness of Ridoc and Sawyer but now we added Cat to the mix and it's even more fun. Of course the dragons in this book are top notch. Okay. I've read this twice now, so I feel pretty solid in my opinions. My first read was via audio, second via hard copy. Now...while I really loved the audio read and the narrator (Rebecca Soler) does a fantastic job, this book moves super quick when there's action and it's super easy to get lost. So...I was pretty well muddled by the time I reached the end.
The reread via the hard copy cleared a LOT of stuff up. I was able to go back and slowly sift through passages that still left me reeling ...more

I love these books so much. I preordered this book back in April 2024. I was so excited all day expecting that the hardcover book would be waiting for me when I got home from work on release day and then Amazon failed me so I had no choice (NO CHOICE) but to also buy the kindle version so that I could start reading the book on release day.
