While this is not the most original read I've ever seen, it's quite a comfortable guilty pleasure read. And, what I just said about originality? I don't care about that since this book gets the obvious tropes and gets them done and redone, told and retold in the most satisying ways ever. And, considering that some of my favourite ever reads are fanfictions, this one is going to join them, proudly.

The character development, the plot, the world building, the dialogue was all very juvenile and poorly done.
I spent the entire reading experience waiting for things to happen or for the story to get better and it just never did.
I was waiting to understand why the world was so cruel? what happened in the past to make this dragon academy necessary and so cut throat? if you need bodies, why are we wasting them in this academy?
What was the rebellion about, and who is the enemy? Revealed at the very ...more

This was my third reread and I loved it even more than this time! It was sad knowing ahead which characters weren't going to make it, but it also makes you enjoy their scenes all the more because you know what happens.
The parapet is still just as intense the third time reading it. Andarna is still my favorite, love her sass, but Tairn is also so great. The ending is good to make you want to start the next book right away.

I really wanted to give the book 2/3 stars because I was, am still, a little pissed by the complete bullsh$& idiocy that marketed it as high fantasy. And a little pissed at the half million readers that picked up just another crap romance and participated in the deception. But, in reality, that’s on me. I knew 50 pages in that I’m reading a romance with a damsel in distress where the author tries to convince us to see her as amazing and powerful, a knight in shining armor who is actually just an

I have no problem with authors using tropes. Tropes are a huge part of how we tell stories. But the amount of stuff in this book that seems to have been deboed wholesale from other authors is too much to overlook.
I said 3 chapters in that I felt that this was knock-off Ember in the Ashes (Sabaa Tahir) and I stand by that assertion. There's also suspicious symmetry between parts of the Valdemar books (Mercedes Lackey) and Divergent (Roth)
All that said, it was also COMPULSIVELY readable and I'v ...more

Boy, this was not a good book. It's like the author read other better fantasy books and just cobbled together the bits she could remember. Nothing makes sense and I don't understand how it's SO popular.
