I loved the tone and story around the house in Starling House, so much so that I think it threw aspects of the book that I didn't like as much into sharp relief. The book read more like a YA story, perhaps because the MC Opal was immature for her age. About a third of the way through the book, I switched from audio to text, and that helped me enjoy the story more. What if your rundown town had a magical house and an entrance to the underworld? And what if you were called to this house?

Oooh this one was such a great read. I loved the gothic fairy tale vibes. The story was beautifully done in its juxtaposition between the real world and the underworld (the Underland). I enjoyed learning how everything and everyone fit together into the story. There was a big bad corporation. There were monsters. There was a magical, meddling house. There were strong themes

Opal and Jasper lost their mother when the car she was driving went into the river on a mi

"To every child who needs a way into Underland. Befriend the Beasts, children, and follow them down."

A fantasy that felt like a dark fairytale.
A cursed house, a small town, and one girl and her brother just trying to survive. A caretaker to a house - who wants to stop the curse, once and for all.

There were so many parts to this story to love. I loved hellcat and the house - superb characters that I loved every time they were on the page. I found our mc, Opal, really immature. The book keeps rem
