This book was a trip. I honestly still don't know what to believe and I finished this 3 days ago. I have a feeling this one will stay with me for awhile.

Josie Fair and Alix Summers end up at the same pub, both celebrating their birthdays which happen to be on the same day. They even were born in the same hospital - birthday twins! Josie takes this as some sort of sign that her life needs to change esp when she sees how glam Alix seems to be. When Josie finds out that Alix is big in the podcasting world, she decides that Alix need to tell her story and also document her upcoming change. Seems a little strange, but Alix goes with it because there's something about Josie that's very captivating.

As the book goes on, we unravel more and more about Josie's past - mostly from Josie herself. And as she's telling us this story, I found myself horrified for her. She obviously suffered abuse and was groomed from a very young age, but then that opens up the questions about does that negate her behavior now? Because while Josie is pouring her heart out to Alix, she's also doing things that just aren't quite right. And then we hit a point where I honestly started to wonder how much of her story is true. And this was when Josie showed up at Alix's house saying her husband beat her.

Talk about an unreliable narrator. This world in Josie's head was so convoluted that it was really hard to separate fiction from reality. And then as Alix started talking to more and more people from Josie's life it just all fell apart. But then there was that final chapter, like what was that??? But I felt so bad for Alix. I kept wanting to shout at her to just cut ties with Josie because there was no way this could end well, but she just couldn't.

In addition to these captivating characters, I really liked the way the book was structured. Having the Netflix scenes cut in between some of the chapters just set this sense of foreboding and dread. You just knew something horrible was going to happen but you couldn't figure out exactly what it was. And then the bad thing happened, and it was horrible and heartbreaking. This book really was a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end.

What a ride!

Alix, a podcaster, and Josie meet on their birthday and learn they are birthday twins (born on the same day on the same year in the same hospital.) While just a quick meeting in a restaurant bathroom, they end up beginning to create a podcast together.

And then everything goes off the rails.

I really enjoyed the format of the book, between the podcast commentary and the NETFLIX documentary style show, intermixed with the traditional novel writing. It was hard to put down!
