I'm always excited to read space horror, and this one has a great cover.
Novellas' can make me a little nervous because I don't always know if I'm going to get a complete story.
Jacklyn is acting Captain of the starship Calypso and everything is going wrong. Her father won't come out of his room, the ship is constantly being hit by mysterious blasts, people are thinking mutiny, and supplies are concerning.

This novella was great! It has surprisingly slow build up but it brings a great atmosphere with it. Jacklyn is our MC and I think her character is very good. She is complex and we got to know not only her fears and insecurities but her strength and strong will as well. One of my favorite parts is her relationship with Watson (data droid).

I would gave this book 5 stars if the horror element ((view spoiler)

3 stars. This was fine. I was excited to get to it but it just didn't come together in the end for me. It felt super rushed and then funnily enough the author says in the note at the end that they wrote this in less than a month and I believe it. The writing isn't bad at all but the plot and characters needed some work. Not a bad read for a debut but it definitely felt like a first draft. ...more
