First of all I haven't read the other books yet or watched the series, so maybe I will. In fact, the graphic novel is the prequel to the novels and the tv - series.
I had no idea what Grisha were and there was only a brief explenation throughout the story, but it was enough. They are powerful people with special and rare gifts and it seems that they are always on the run for normal people and other Grisha.

Darkling origin story in graphic novel form: yes please. I hadn’t actually read the original short story, and I have basically forgotten 80% of this world, but it was nice to be back in.
It’s quite a compelling story, and gives you a slice of the past that really shows you how Aleksander becomes the morally grey villain we all love to hate. Wow! What a book! I listened to this on on audio and it was so intense! It was amazing and kept me engaged the entire time. I think it's supposed to be a graphic novel? I don't know, but it was a graphic audio, which was amazing. By far one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to. I was kind of nervous going into this one because Leigh Bardugo is a hit or miss author for me, but I absolutely loved this one and want to listen to the rest of her books on audio if they are like this one.
