These books just get more and more complex. Tobias Hawthorne had way too many secrets and planned so many games and riddles that it's ridiculous. With this final installment, we got all the answers. Exactly why Avery was chosen, everything about Toby and his parentage, and what happens to the vast fortune Avery inherited. I was happy that everything wrapped up and we weren't left hanging with questions.

Who is the best Hawthorne brother and why is it Xander?
Okay jokes aside I liked this book. I think it was a pretty fitting end to the series considering everything that took place in the previous two books. My only complaint about this book is that it couldn't hold onto the pacing that this story had established in the first book. This book had moments where it dragged a little bit or got boring. I don't remember feeling bored while reading the first book. Other than that, a pretty good series. ...more

This was an epic finale for a great series.
Let's start with the bad because I have only one complaint about this book: Grayson. I really really really like him, but in this book, I don't really like the author's choices about him. Or at least, some of them. I can't really say a lot, because I don't want to spoiler anything but there were a couple of things that didn't really sit so well with me, but to be honest they were not so big (sure, I would have loved for different things but... This was one heck of a ride. I was so confused reading this tbh. I took a few weeks between the second and this one and it showed. Not a good decision. This was giving me whiplash and nothing was re-explained and I was super confused. This was very fast paced with so much I had to suspect disbelief for but it was such a fun ride as well! Can't wait to re read these all together back to back next time

3 stars. This is a series that I don’t know why I continued on with. It’s not very good and extremely juvenile but they are compulsively readable. It’s silly and convoluted but they are definitely not boring. I can’t say that I ever grew any type of connection to the characters because I didn’t but I do like Barnes’ writing style so I do want to read other books by her but yeah, this series did nothing for me.
I loved this series so much! It’s not like most of the stuff I read, but the short chapters and puzzles had me in a freaking choke hold. I know most people got sucked into the barely there love story, but that was just a distraction in the plot. I loved the mystery, secrets, and the overwhelming desire of all the characters to win the game.
3.5 stars. After the first book, this is not the finale I would have expected. It was a surprise which is a delight. I did feel like this book was repetitive though with overall ideas or thought processes. Barnes emphasised certain phrases which I think is okay. Overall, this is a decent series with an amazing beginning.
