all the light we cannot see is a historical fiction story following marie-laure, a blind girl living with her father in france, and werner, a german boy recruited into the hitler youth for his skill with computers.

this book takes place during world war ii, so please make sure to check the content warnings before reading.

this was a beautiful book. the alternating narratives ran parallel to each other and worked nicely with the story. the side characters were great too and each one of them play

When I first started this book, I had to put it down for a few days. I just wasn't pulled into the story. But after I pushed myself to continue reading the book and Anthony Doerr's beautiful prose washed over me, I gained new respect for the imagery and details he included in the descriptions of the characters and their surroundings. Reading the chapters centered around Marie-Laure, especially, were filled with sensory stimulants. I felt like I was seeing the world the way she did, and I felt in ...more

This was really good! I enjoyed the writing style and chapter length. Even though there were sad parts, there were bright spots too. I can see why it won a Goodreads award and is always recommended.
