This was an okay book. I have very mixed feelings on the Caraval series in general, especially Book 1 and Jacks as a character. I didn't realize this was going to be a spin-off from that series.
Once Upon a Broken Heart takes place a bit after the end of Finale mostly. If you haven't read the Caraval series, you can read this though there are some general spoilers to how Finale ends and I think you'd get a better background on the Fates in general from the Caraval series. I’m rating this like I’m 14 instead of an adult because it’s a bit more fair that way. It’s a really adorable young (very young) adult book. She’s super innocent and sweet and naive, the characters are almost animations of people, it has the lovely language of a fairy tale bedtime story. It doesn’t have complexity, however.
