Shelves: audience-adult, format-ebook, book-club, genre-historical

A lot of times, books that span over a long period of time are hard for me, but this one was written in such a coherent way that it didn’t matter. And, I’ll admit, the idea of one person marrying seven times in their lifetime did seem a bit far-fetched to me at first. However, the story showed there really wasn’t another way for Evelyn and all of her marriages meant different things. Overall, this was a very lovely story.

I was so nervous to read this book. It's been sitting on my shelf for years. I worried the hype would leave me disappointed. I worried it would not hit me like Carrie and Daisy did. I should have never doubted. I understand why this is still raved about as TJR's best, because I honestly think it is.

Don't get me wrong, I have loved so much about TJR's books but this one was on another level. I ugly cried reading this because it broke my heart so many times. I'm crying writing this review just re ...more

En yhtään ihmettele kirjan saamaa innostustunutta vastaanottoa, sillä kirja oli hyvä. Jo heti alusta kirja koukutti enkä olisi malttanut jättää kirjaa kesken. Saatoin ehkä lukeakin sen ilman taukoja, jos ei oteta huomioon normaaleja ruoka-, vessa- tai nukkumis(hädin tuskin) taukoja. Kirjoittaminen oli sujuvaa, piti mielenkiintoa yllä ja itse tarina ja lopun ratkaisut olivat erilaisia. Wow! Just wow! I really liked this novel!! Such a great story that I'm sure was common back in the golden age of Hollywood.

The Good:
-I loved how each husband got his own chapter and the author took the time to let us get to know them.
-The characters were really fleshed out and I loved how you got a sense of what made them click.
-I love old stories of old Hollywood!
-Monique's growth was a beautiful thing to read. I could see myself in her, and the way she blossomed from Evelyn ...more
