I’m not sure what to rate this just yet. I loved the first 2/3 of the story. I did not enjoy the last 1/3, so my experience with reading this book was very similar to my experience with reading the original series. Interestingly enough, there are a lot of parallels between this story and the original trilogy. The things I liked about it are similar to the things I liked in The Hunger Games trilogy, and likewise with the things I didn’t like.

I usually round up but this one bored me so much through the majority of the book…I just couldn’t. It picked up in Part. 3 which was that last 30% of the book. I honestly hadn’t even planned on reading this but my daughter LOVED the movie and convinced me to read the book. The movie may be good (according to her) but according to me, this book wasn’t. It was way too long and too many songs and one of the most self centered MC I’ve ever encountered. He didn’t have a single redeeming qual ...more

maybe it's because i've read the og trilogy YEARS ago. maybe it's because snow has never been my fave or just mildly intriguing to me but i just couldn't get into it. coriolanus (yes, his name is around 59398582 times in the first 100 pages) is so annoying and boring and moaning about everything, all the time. in fact almost everyone at the capitol is (as expected) cold-hearted and full of themselves. i didn't feel the passion, hunger - pun intended - and wow effect that i felt ...more

Alussa meni jokunen hetki tottua siihen, että kertoja oli vaihtunut ja että tapahtumat tapahtuivat ennen ensimmäisen Nälkäpeli- kirjan tapahtumia. Vaikka siitä toki olin lukenut takakannesta ja se hyvin tuotiinkin esille, niin silti meni aikaa ennen kuin pääsi sisälle tarinoihin. Ihan jännä idea kirjoittaa toisen kertojan voimin tarinaa ja siitä, miten Nälkäpeli sai alkunsa, mutta jotenkin se ei ollut myöskään hyvä juttu, että niin tehtiin. A very long read and each section of the book was very different. I enjoy snows back story but didn’t enjoy the ending as much it felt rushed after a very long drawn out middle of the book
Loved it. Dark, cruel, calculating with a few unexpected turns and twists. Here’s to hoping there is a 2nd. Snow lands on top.
