What Members Thought
This book has more politics and power play. The middle seesawing of Mal and Alina’s relationship was (slightly) tedious and there were more characters in this. Nicholas was interesting. I actually can’t predict how the final book will go but am looking forward to finding out. Darkness never dies? We’ll see!
Four Stars
Siege and Storm was super good, it felt extremely rushed in the beginning though. I wish it would've slowed down a bit. But that was my only huge issue with the book. BESIDES FUCKING MAL.
The good:
-Alina, dude she is so good. She feels so real. Literally Mal hold her back every step she takes.
-The world building! I really liked this book because it went deeper into the political side of the Grishaverse. I was super curious about it from Shadow and Bone and was super glad Bardugo went ...more

This was a pretty good sequel, though I didn't like it quite as much as the first book. It's a bit slower and we didn't see the Darkling as much as I would have liked. We do get to meet Nikolai though and he's pretty great. Nikolai is a bit of a mystery, he's a good actor and it's hard to tell what he's thinking or how he feels about things. It is clear that he loves his people and just wants them to be safe and to defeat the Darkling.

3 stars. And those three stars are only for the writing, The Darkling whom I still really like and Nikolai because he is a gem. Other than those three things, this series is quite dull. I don’t like Alina and find her to be insufferable and Mal is just as annoying. Also, this book was boring. A lot happens, sure, but none of it was interesting to me and I just didn’t care. I’m only wanting to finish this series because I want to read King of Scars. I’m not expecting much from book three but I ho

I liked the first book much more. I think Alina’s character has dwindled. Maybe it’s because she was so strong in the first one? Or maybe it’s supposed to be that way, like the energy it takes to deal with the scenarios in the book drain her?
Or I’m overthinking it
I’ll definitely be reading the next book. I feel like trilogies always end up this way, with the first book being awesome and the second one meh.

Siege and Storm is a book of two parts. The first part introduces a new character as they go on a hunt. It was fun, a little exciting and then the second part came around.
The second part is more political. Alina has to figure out how to build an army to help defeat the Darkling. It's a careful balancing act that becomes more evident. The struggles that Alina goes through are showcased in a way the audience hadn't seen before. It was a way to give her more depth and flesh her out more. Some peop ...more

“We do the best we can,” I offered lamely.
David looked at me then, the regret plain on his face. No matter what I said, we both knew the hard truth. We do our best. We try. And usually, it makes no difference at all.
I rarely read two books from the same series one right after the other (I think it happened only with Harry Potter and the Illuminae Files lol), but I SWEAR I'LL JUMP ON RUIN AND RISING IN A FEW DAYS BECAUSE I'M ADDICTED TO THIS SERIES, OK BYE. ...more
I could not believe how quickly they were found across the sea and immediately brought back. It seemed almost pointless to have them able to run so far. I thought finding the second amplifier would be more difficult. I was surprised by the next turn of events but I really enjoyed it. I love the privateer. He is one of my favorite characters even if he is a clever fox. Mal is still one of my favorites but his character did things which I would consider very unlike him. I was interested to see how

Alina's journey continues in Siege and Storm and she is torn between the limited choices she has. Does she fight for Ravka, does she surrender and join the Darkling, or does she go into hiding. The excitement kicks off almost immediately, and I was on the seat of my chair for a majority of the book. I sometimes caught myself reading too quickly and jumping ahead and then having to backtrack to reread what I just flew over.
