I really enjoyed this book, though I wouldn't call it an 'Elm Creek' novel. It's a spin-off, and picks up where 'The Quilter's Homecoming' finishes. In fact, the first couple of chapters overlap, as we leave the story from Elizabeth's point of view (in The Quilter's Homecoming), and now take up the story from Rosa's point of view. It has no link whatsoever to Elm Creek, and only a very slim link to Elizabeth, who came from Elm Creek.

Set during the prohibition era, this story tells fans of the Elm Creek Quilts series a bit more of what happened to Sylvia Bergstrom's cousin Elizabeth after she moved to California but is really about Rosa Diaz and Lars Jorgenson who we were introduced to in an earlier novel. This story is rich with details of what California wine makers did to survive during prohibition combined with a mother's survival instincts and true love.

Although this is included in the Elm Creek Quilts series, there are only a few references to quilting in this book. Sonoma Rose is a good story but I felt it was about 50 pages too long.

This was a lovely book to read. Set away from Elm Creek but with a small quilting theme it was a different path to go diwn which I loved. Thanks Jennifer. Cant wait for another good book from you.
