When I heard S.L. Scott had a new serial coming out, I got a little excited. No, that's not true - I got way excited. Scott is one of my favorite indie authors, and I've always enjoyed her work. Scorned, the first book in the From the Inside Out serial, was no different. I enjoyed every minute of it.

When I heard S.L. Scott had a new serial coming out, I got a little excited. No, that's not true - I got way excited. Scott is one of my favorite indie authors, and I've always enjoyed her work. Scorned, the first book in the From the Inside Out serial, was no different. I enjoyed every minute of it.

The title of this piece was enough alone to make me want to read it. After all ... "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." I think it's safe to say that most women have been there at one point in time - rejected, angry, looking for a way to move on, maybe even ready to dish up a nice, cold serving of revenge. That's where Jules - known as Juliette pre-breakup - is at when the book opens. She was hurt three years earlier, and though she's tried to move forward, what she's actually done is put a nickel sized bandage on a gaping wound. She goes through the motions every day, finds comfort in her best friend, and tries not to think about Dylan, the man who broke her heart.

This mode of operation works fine, until Dylan wanders out of her memories and back in to her life. The man who ceased to exist for so long is suddenly everywhere, and Jules has a hard time, to say the least, reconciling her feelings and figuring out exactly what she wants to do.

I enjoyed the cast of characters Scott created with this story. Brandon seems very much like the boy next door, though I question whether his intentions are honorable or not. Austin has it all - good looks, money, and charm - but he also has class and humbleness, which make me hope he'll play a big role in the rest of the serial. Dylan is introduced, and the few glimpses Scott gave from his perspective did make me feel like I might be able to understand and/or sympathize with him eventually, but he doesn't play a very active role in this installment.

There's a healthy dose of angst, though not as much as I initially expected given the title of the work. Jules seemed a wee bit too willing to let Dylan back in, but we're still early on in the story, so I'm hoping she puts him through the ringer a few times as things progress. I can't wait until the next installment in this serial comes out. Scorned left me wanting more of everything - the characters, the story, and all that's in between.

If you like serials and are looking for one that's filled with passion, heartbreak, and betrayal, then Scorned is just the book for you!

Let me just say that I love serials. I've read quite a few recently that I've fell in love with. Cliffhangers don't bother me as long as I don't have to wait too long to get the next installment. Scorned didn't end with a cliffhanger but it does leave you wanting more. I can't say much without giving spoilers so I will refrain from saying too many details. This story was well written with characters that are easy to connect to. Some more than others ;)

The heroine of S.L. Scott’s newest release, Scorned, can almost be seen as two people – the one before/during her relationship with Dylan and the one after Dylan broke her heart.

As Juliette, she was happy being with the love of her life, and even though they were struggling a bit financially, everything was better because she shared her life with Dylan.

As Jules, she’s been numb since Dylan left her. She suppresses every emotion because it’s easier to feel nothing than to succumb to the pain and The heroine of S.L. As Jules, she’s been numb since Dylan left her. She suppresses every emotion because it’s easier to feel nothing than to succumb to the pain and bitterness that she’s felt for the last three years. Jules is Juliette’s persona…her alter ego - the one who can look good on the outside and be predictable and reliable while the person on the inside, Juliette, hides away to prevent getting hurt again.

Since becoming Jules, she has her art and her routine with little else, but that works for her; it allows her to get out of bed each morning, knowing what the day will bring. But now, Jules’ orderly life is thrown off axis by Dylan’s reappearance in her life, and everything she’s done to work through her heartbreak and redefine herself is now beginning to crumble, and she doesn’t know what to do about it.

Jules' story is not an easy one; she's been through hell since Dylan broke her heart, and now he's back, and there's so much unfinished business between them. That being said, she doesn’t seem to be showing the kind of emotions I thought she would due to the fact he completely decimated her life. In the type of situation that Jules is in, the title definitely seems fitting, but she doesn’t act like a woman scorned, and it’s unclear as to why she doesn’t. That’s the part I need more insight into…I need to understand her reaction and her need to seek him out.

Dylan’s return has prompted her to come out of her shell a bit, though, but it doesn’t seem like it’s for the right reasons, which in the end could end up destroying her even more as well as the others who are involved in this situation. It will be interesting to see what chaos Dylan's return will continue to cause. At the end of part one, I'm left with quite a few questions that I hope will be answered in part two.

Julie suffered a heartbreak three years ago, is finally getting herself back together when Dylan shows up again. Not wanting anything to do with him, she´s keeping her distance. At the same time, Austin is getting closer. An acquaintance through work, but now he´s making his move.
Quick read, you get a feel for all the players.

A serial in three books, but you get to choose your ending since the last book comes in both men - Austin or Dylan.

SL Scott is one of my favorite m/f authors.

It's the classic boy breaks girls heart but what's interesting to me is, she never knows why. She never knows where he's went, what he's done, or especially why he's done it.

Of course he shows up again just as she meets a new man. And I might add wonderful man.. At the end of this book I am Team Austin all the way and think Dylan's a jerk. However, knowing SL, she'll try to change my mind. Will she???? Hmmm we'll see. ;)

Solid 3.5 read for me. This was a story of so much heartache, second changes and finding the right path, however, it does not end here. There is so much more to the story!

I was left with all these feels.

S.L Scott has done it again, she's written a story that draws you in with her words and characters.
