I had read the Redemption first and it was an awesome story and now to have read the Resistance just made me love both books even more. In this book, SL Scott plunges us into a whirlwind romance starting in Las Vegas. Holliday Hughes is attending a conference there, her successful company being recognized among her peers. She’s not impressed with some of the attendants, though, and slips out to one of the hotel bars for a cocktail. It is there that she meets a handsome, cocky man, whom she thinks works in hotel security. He introduces himself as Jack Dalton.

Deciding that she is also enjoying some time off, Holliday eventually agrees to go up to Dalton’s room. She is expecting a one night stand, so she is surprised when Dalton actually makes an effort getting to know her. There is a connection there, though, which she can’t deny, and she gives into it.
One night turns into a weekend spent together and promises to follow up when they are both back in LA.

Dalton clearly has trust issues and is quick to jump to conclusions. Although this stems from his fear of losing Holliday, she doesn’t let him off the hook that easily. I like that Holliday is strong and independent, not necessarily needing a man to complete her. Her feelings for Dalton take her by surprise as well, which I found very relatable, and she tries to balance her life with this new addition. This makes the characters believable and realistic; no helpless damsel waiting for her knight in this story.

The supporting characters are also quite interesting. Holliday’s new neighbor Danny actually has his own book now (Models on Top - Danny: Volume 1). Tracy is a good friend to Holliday, simultaneously contrasting and complementing her personality. I immediately liked Cory and Rochelle, because they are uncomplicated and sincere. Dex, I didn’t really like; to me he comes across as rather selfish, fully enjoying the perks of his fame without taking much responsibility. I’m curious to find out if he has sufficient redeeming qualities.

SL Scott has a very descriptive, emotive writing style, making you fall in love right along with her characters. The Resistance actually triggered memories of past romances and my time spent in LA, making for a visceral read. ...more

This story is the stuff that movies are made of... brilliant, moving, haunting, twisted.

I don't know why it took me so long, far too long, to read this book. Is it because there are just so many rock star novels? I don't know.
But I know for sure that this book captivated me from the very first page and didn't let go of me until the last word.
Both characters, Holliday and Johnny/ Jake, are so human with all their strengths and weaknesses, so alive, so profound ...
