One of my favorite "A Series of Unfortunate Events" novels. Such a beautiful display of the Baudelaire's love for one another. Their clever skills are unmatched and always fun to read about. Also, I realize that Aunt Josephine is a very interesting character now that I am re-reading the series; with an older eye I recognize all of the dark undertones Snicket incorporated into her character and I really appreciate this. It reminds me of Araby in a way in which one's own fears and pensive concerns ...more

I think this book compared to the last 2 books was a bit long and the story of aunt Josephine was annoying. Although I did like how count Olaf came dressed as a sailboats owner. I thought that the way the novel ended, was not the best ending and there wasn't mucha drama when captain sham was exposed to be count olaf. And the getaway of the horrible man was not that good. But overall I enjoyed the novel and the orphans' back luck in this book. Can't wait to read the 4th book. ...more

THIS BOOK HAD AMAZING STORYTELLING HOLY. The way the author made Josephine’s letter into clue for Klaus to decode, that was smart and quite original. I loved Klaus’ character in this one and Sunny was more helpful. I was also intrigued with the aunt’s backstory and was sad we couldn’t get to see more of her.
